Mulled Wine

This is a delicious winter warming drink.   Homemade mulled wine is incredibly easy to make on the stovetop (or simmer in the slow cooker), its easy to customize with your favourite spices and add-ins and is so cozy and delicious.

This recipe was found at https://www.gimmesomeoven.com

Ingredients:

1 (750ml) bottle of dry red wine

¼ cup brandy (or orange Liqueur)

1 orange, sliced into rounds

8 whole cloves

2 cinnamon sticks

2 star anise

2 to 4 tablespoons of sugar, honey, or maple syrup to taste

Instructions:

Combine ingredients.  (Note:  I use a slow cooker and wrap orange, cloves, cinnamon sticks and star anise in cheese cloth so there are no floaters in the wine when done.  I also double the recipe and use a good quality non-alcoholic red wine as I usually start the evening with the mulled wine and serve a good alcoholic red wine with the meal.)

Simmer in crock pot, avoiding letting it bubble (especially if you are using wine with alcohol as it will boil off). This process can be done from 15 minutes to 3 hours.

Strain if you are not using cheesecloth. Remove cheesecloth bundle when you are ready to serve.
